Happy June and #JuneBBC Day 1

Happy June everyone! I can’t believe that May is over…yikes! I don’t know about you, but a lot happened during the month of May, and now I am ready to head into the hazy, crazy, lazy days of summer with June. To kick off this month, I have decided to participate in the June Beauty Blog Challenge, otherwise known as #JuneBBC. This is an idea started by Girl Friday over on her blog where there is a topic everyday that acts as a prompt for a post. If you would like to know more about this challenge, or to view the list of daily topics, you can check out the original post here. Today’s topic is: Favourite eyeliner.

Favorite eyeliners

Boom. There they are folks. I thought it best to provide my favorite liquid and pencil eyeliners so as to cover all of my bases. First up to bat is the Milani Liquif’eye Metallic Eye Pencil. Originally, I was going to choose the Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner Pencil, but after some careful thought, I realized that this pencil is just as amazing at a fraction of the price! This eyeliner is a dream. It is so smooth, so creamy, and so incredibly pigmented. It smudges well if you work quickly, but after about 30 seconds, this eyeliner will set and then it will not budge. Such an awesome product. You can find Milani products in-store at Ulta and some drugstores, or online at Milancosmetics.com. Next up, is my Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion. Oh lord. This eyeliner is amazing, I cannot say enough good things about it. Is it waterproof? Check. Is it pigmented? Double-check. Is it long lasting? Double-triple-quadruple check! Seriously, I am sitting here, with the swatches still on my hand, and no matter how much I rub, scratch, or claw, that bad boy is going nowhere. Oh, and speaking of swatches, here they are:

Eyeliner swatches

On the left, is the Milani pencil eyeliner in Black and on the right is the Urban Decay liquid liner in Perversion. These swatches are just one quick coat of each, and as you can see, they are both the blackest of black.

Well, that is all for my first day of #JuneBBC. What do you think? If you would like to join me in doing this, I would love to know! Let me know of any posts that you do for this challenge!

Happy June!

May 2013 Monthly Favorites

May 2013 Favorites

Like anyone who has spent more than five minutes as a beauty blogger, I’ve noticed how everyone seems to do their own version of a “Monthly Favorites” post. And, if you are anything like me, you look forward to the onslaught of these posts at the end of every month. So, to add to the pile, I am starting my own series of monthly favorites posts. Yay! Quick Review of Maybelline’s The Falsies mascara

The Falsies

Happy Thursday everyone! Here is a quick post letting you know my thoughts on the Maybelline The Falsies Volum’ Express mascara. This mascara has a cult-like following in the beauty world and to tell you the truth, I totally didn’t get it at first. For the first couple of weeks after I opened this mascara, I hated it. I didn’t like the wand, I didn’t like formula, and I hated how it felt on my lashes. However, I have seen the light! With some mascaras, there is this magical transformation that takes place once it has started to dry out a little, and I think that this mascara is a good example of that. Also, it took me a little time to get used to the brush. It has been years since I have used anything other than a mascara wand with plastic bristles, and to go back to a wand like this took some getting used to. Once I figured out how to make it work for me, I can honestly say that I love this mascara!

Now on to some actual specs on this mascara.

The wand

I like this wand; as I mentioned previously, it has the traditional style of bristles rather than plastic ones. This wand is also curved and is a bit wiggly. I think the wiggliness of it help keep your lashes from getting clumpy. I really love the curve of this wand because I think it does a great job of putting some additional curl into my lashes.

The formula

At first, I didn’t know what to make of the formula of this. I prefer a slightly drier mascara and I found this one to be a little too wet for my liking. My lashes were clumping and looking a bit too spidery in my taste. After a week or two of on again, off again use, I finally figured out that the trick with this mascara (for me) is to use a light hand. The product will layer on the lashes nicely this way, giving you a full, “false lash” look with none of the clumps. Success!

I really do like this mascara quite a bit. It adds volume and length without making my lashes feel too stiff or look too cakey. It doesn’t flake on me, although I did notice some slight smudging after a long day. However, it should be noted that I live in a very hot and humid climate and I don’t know if there is any product that can escape a long summer day completely unscathed. If you are looking for a good, “does it all” product, you should seriously consider giving this one a try!

And now, for your viewing pleasure, here is a photo showing the before and after of this mascara.

Well folks, that’s all for now!

Ipsy Glam Bag May 2013 and GIVEAWAY!!

Ipsy Glam Bag May 2013

Hello everyone! Today I received my May 2013 Ipsy Glam bag. For those of you who are unaware, Ipsy provides a beauty subscription service where, for $10 a month, you get a bag filled with goodies! It is a great way to try out products that you wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to. Let’s dive in, shall we?

This month I received:

  • A sample of Yaby concealer in Buff
  • A Pacifica roll on perfume in Island Vanilla
  • NuMe Finishing Serum
  • Juicy Beauty Reflecting Gloss in Fig
  • Zoya nail polish in Julie

So far, I have really enjoyed the products that I have tried. The hair oil is great at adding shine and taming frizz without making hair greasy or weighed down. The perfume is a pretty scent. It’s not something that I would wear every day, but it is a sweet vanilla scent without being too cloying. I haven’t had a chance to try the concealer yet, but it is creamy and nicely pigmented. I really enjoyed the Juicy Beauty lip gloss. It is really shiny but not sticky at all. Isn’t it the worst when you find a gloss that you love, but your hair ends up stuck to your mouth every ten seconds? Thankfully, that doesn’t happen here. This gloss smells like oranges which, for me, is as added bonus. I am obsessed with citrus scents! Here are some lip and hand swatches of the gloss:

Very pretty 🙂

Last, but not least, we have the Zoya nail polish in Julie. I LOVE Zoya polishes; they last forever on my fingers and toes and my nails tend to chip really easily. The only downfall is, I already have this shade! So, I have decided to do a little giveaway 🙂 All you have to do to enter is follow my blog and leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite Spring/ Summer nail polish is right now. Easy right? This giveaway is open to all U.S. residents. The winner will be selected at random and will be announced on June 1, so be sure to check back here!

If you are interested in joining Ipsy and getting your own monthly Glam Bag you can subscribe to Ipsy here.

Have a lovely day and good luck!
